3. Do it yourself
There are a few places to get free images, but a site called Unsplash is a particularly great place to access free, high-quality images. The range of images available is unbelievable and the fact that they are available for free is amazing. We love it so much that our Director made a little video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbCwsJtQDL4
If you find an image you like, you might just want a small piece of it. You might not have photoshop or the know-how to manipulate images. There’s a handy app that comes free when you purchase a Mac and it’s called Preview.
You may have used it already, but don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s just a simple app that allows you to view PDF’s and images. But it has a tool called the magic wand (or instant alpha). Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use it. This is handy to know about as it will delete the background of an image which means you can place it on any background without blocking out any of the important bits of the image behind the text.
It’s also, handy to note that you can greyscale your logo in this app too. You will definitely want to do this as a colour logo may not always be appropriate and if your clients are printing in black and white, you still want to present the best version of your logo that you can.
A Beautiful Mess
A friend of mine recently went through the process of creating a new logo for a PTA group. She found a free image online and then used a clever little app called A Beautiful Mess to put wording around the image and came up with this little gem.
How to present your new logo
Once you come up with your brand-new logo, how do you then present it to the world, and make the most of your marketing opportunities? You should put it at the top of your letterheads of course, but you could do so much more.
Sharing your new logo on your social media profiles can be a great marketing opportunity. You can make it your business profile picture. Create a real buzz about your brand.
A big announcement via blog post, that you and your company have arrived, is a great way to launch yourselves. And a website called Magic Mockups creates a great little render of your logo placed in real environments. Perfect if you like a Mac product, and we love a Mac product! The great thing is it’s free to use. Show off your new logo in the coolest way possible.
And, if all else fails, getting your mate to knock something together is perfectly fine, as long as they can draw that is! Don’t let friendship get in the way of an honest opinion.
